tries for the first annual VariBlend Formulation Challenge. The
entry period runs through Dec. 1. Award winners will be announced Jan. 30, 2016.
The expert judging panel will include members of the international formulator and brand innovation manager communities, according to the company.
Prize money totals $10,000, with $7,500 going to the first-place winner and $2,500 for the runner-up.
According to Robert Brands, VariBlend president and CEO, the
2015 VariBlend Formulation Challenge is designed to spark the
creativity of skin care product developers, as it underscores the
tremendous market potential for the dual dispensing category.
Open to manufacturers, contract packagers and formulators,
the inaugural VariBlend program challenges entrants to devise a
skin care product using the company’s 40mm dual dispenser. This
opens up possibilities in four product concept areas: A/B, Variable,
50/50, and the increasingly popular“regimen” type product that
deliver a different multi-element formula ratio over time.

•International brand design agency Bluemarlin has created a new
visual identity for Batiste, a top-selling dry shampoo brand in the UK.
According to the company, the reinvigorated identity guides the visual expression for all of Batiste’s product pillars as they evolve their range of dry
shampoos and extend the brand into styling products. The updated design
takes Batiste’s distinctive patterns to the next level by adding an element
of discovery, provoking consumers to take a second look. For example,
cherries reveal themselves to be bold red lips. Pink flamingos become
martini glasses while lotus flowers bloom into swans.

Joli Rouge by Clarins Goes Gold
•The Joli Rouge lipstick by Clarins has been sold in a shiny
silver anodized tube, but soon it will turn to anodized gold.
Abilene, a major player in the lipstick sector, has been asked to
redesign the entire range of packaging for Joli Rouge:
the lipstick for sale, testers, false lipsticks, and miniature lipsticks.
The lipstick will be available around the world
in 25 shades come the autumn.
