What’s Trending in
• The American Academy of Facial
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
(AAFPRS) has surveyed its members to
reveal what’s next in the realm of facial
plastic surgery. According to AAFPRS
members, keys trends for the year to come
include microneedling and chemical peels.
Microneedling is picking up momen-
tum because it is non-invasive and it de-
livers results, according to AAFPRS. Facial
plastic surgeons are using microneedling
for treating acne scars, aging skin and pig-
mentation. It can be combined with peels,
topical serums, and platelet-rich plasma
(PRP) to further enhance results.
Complexion-reviving peels have
been around for decades, but remain
a gold standard for facial rejuvenation,
Also, TCA peels are a perennial favor-
ite for retexturizing and wrinkle reduction,
Another takeaway, noted by AAFPRS
president Dr. Edwin F. Williams, is the
idea that more is not always more when it
comes to plastic surgery.
“By that I mean we now have the
means, ability and technology to implement more innovative, less invasive
techniques, and that can lead to overcompensation or overcorrection,” he said.
“Even if it’s easier than ever before to
make a lip plumper or cheek more lifted,
you still want the result to be subtle.”•
